KFC closed after protests over waste disposal


KOZHIKODE: With the raging issue of waste disposal creating headaches for the authorities, the city on Wednesday witnessed the anger of the people in a different way. In protest against the dumping of wastes by the KFC Restaurant on the Bank Road in various places along the roads from West Hill to Kakkodi, people from these areas, DYFI workers along with corporation councillors collected the wastes and dumped it back on the restaurant premises. Later people led by councillors C S Sathyabhama, C P Salim, T Sujan Krishnadas and O M Bharadwaj protested in front of the outlet for several hours.
The incident led to the closure of the restaurant. Later Corporation authorities held discussions with the restaurant owners and asked them to close the hotel until a better waste disposal plan is chalked out. Corporation Health standing committee chairperson has also served showcause  notice on the restaurant.
Meanwhile, Corporation health officer has said that stringent action will be taken against the restaurant.
