Kadinamkulam: Three dead as school van plunges into canal

Monday, September 26, 2011: Three students belonging to the Saint Andrews Jyothinilayam school have died and one missing after a school van plunged into the canal near Kadinamkulam today.
The dead have been identified as Aromal S Nair, Kaniha Santhosh and Aswin sources said. According to the eye witness’ statements the school van was carrying around 23 school children. Nineteen students have been rescued and rushed to the nearby hospitals, sources said.
The accident took place about 25 km from here when the bus was carrying the students back home. Several Fire fighting units, police and the local residents have started rescue operations. The condition of six children are reported to be serious.
Preliminary reports suggest that the over speeding van had lost control when it reached a narrow road near the canal. The driver has been rescued. More details are awaited.
