Tuesday, September 27, 2011: CPM-led LDF Opposition in Kerala on Tuesday staged a walkout from the Assembly in protest against Speaker G Karthikeyan’s refusal to entertain their adjournment motion on the recent outbreak of fever in the state. The adjournment motion was moved by Dr. TM Thomas Issac alleging that the state government had falied to curb the spread of contagious diseases. The government had not dealt with the issue seriously, he added.
The opposition pointed out that, as many as 300 persons have died due to the fever outbreak, but according to the government’s report 179 persons had died. Spread of viral fever reported from many parts of Kerala is causing concern as various types of viral infections, including leptospirosis, have claimed several lives.
