Sunday, October 30, 2011: Opposition LDF in Kerala has demanded action against state government Chief Whip P C George for his alleged casteist remarks against a CPI(M) MLA.
CPI(M) leader T M Thomas Isaac said George should be booked under Scheduled Caste Prevention of Atrocities Act.
The Kerala Congress-M leader on October 27 had allegedly made a casteist remark against CPI(M) A K Balan at a public meeting in Pathanapuram in Kollam district. It was the same meeting where Forest Minister K B Ganesh Kumar (Kerala Congress-B) had fulminated in vulgar language against opposition leader in Kerala Assembly V S Achuthanandan.

Kumar had yesterday expressed regret over his speech after LDF and its feeder outfits came out in strong protest over his lewd comments against the 88-year-old CPI(M) leader. Balan, a former minister and MLA from Taroor (SC) segment in Palakkad district, said George should publicly apologise for his remarks as it amounted to creating caste friction.
CPI(M)’s women wing AIDWA also came out against George for making certain derogatory remarks in connection with a recent incident in the assembly in which a woman guard was allegedly injured during a protest by LDF members.
AIDWA leaders said George’s comment accounted to insult to entire women community and he should be removed from the post of Chief Whip.Reacting to the charges against him, George said his speech was distorted by some sections of media.
Meanwhile, many Congress and UDF leaders also felt that the unsavoury remarks by George and Kumar came as embarrassment for the ruling front.Congress leader K Muraleedharan said as public servants everybody should be restraint in their public pronouncements.
