Police firing: DYFI march turns violent in T’puram Police

Monday, October 17, 2011: The march taken out by the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activists to the Kerala Assembly demanding action against Kozhikode ACP Radhakrishna Pillai who opened fire at SFI activists at West hill engineering college.
The police erected barricade to stop the protestors from entering the Assembly premises. This led to scuffle between the police and the activists. The activists pelted stones at the police vehicles and the police resorted to minor lathicharge.

Earlier report:-
The SFI activists were staging protest march to oust Nirmal Madhav, who was given admission in the West Hill college breaching all norms. The protest in Kozhikode had not created a situation that warranted police firing. Contradictory to the police version the Tahsildar’s report points out that the ACP had not sought an approval from him.
The report submitted before the district collector clearly points out that the tahsildar had not given any direction to open police firing to disperse the agitated mob.
The report indicates that he was not entrusted with the duty of Executive Magistrate and that he had reached the spot as per the direction of the district collector.
