Private practice: KGMCTA to hold talks with Govt

Sunday, October 23, 2011: The Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association (KGMCTA) today informed that they would hold talks with the state government regarding the private practice of Govt doctors. The discussion regarding this matter would be held after the second session of Kerala Assembly.
In a statement here KGMCTA opined that the suggestion that vigilance probe must be initiated against the erring doctors who indulge in private practice was put forward during the previous LDF government.

The health department had earlier warned the government doctors posted in the Medical Colleges against indulging in private practice and said strict action would be taken against the erring doctors.
The directive regarding this has been issued by the Health department secretary. A letter regarding this was sent to Government medical colleges across state giving a warning to doctors about a possible vigilance raid.
The circular issued contains 4 directives:-
1. The name board of doctors installed in their houses should be removed.
2. To whom the complaints must be registered and proper publicity must be given in the IP and OP sections of the hospitals.
3. When a complaint has been registered the Medical college vigilance wing must conduct a raid in the centre.
4. The hospital superintends must make sure that doctors do not indulge in private practice either in their residences or else where.
