Monday, October 17, 2011: CPI State committee member and former AIYF
state president N. Velappan (52) was killed in a car accident near
Edassery Junction here on Sunday night.
P. Thilothaman (Cherthala MLA), K. Ajith (Vaikkom MLA) and Rajesh
were inside the car at the time of accident which took place at 11 pm.
Thilothaman, Ajith and Rajesh were injured. Thilothaman, who was
seriously injured and was rushed to Alappuzha Medical College. The MLAs were heading to Thiruvananthapuram to attend the state Assembly.
The car in which they were travelling was trying to overtake a
container lorry and lost control and fell into a pit. Velappan could not
be saved. The injured were first taken to Kayamkulam Taluk and were
given first aid.
