The Kerala High Court on Tuesday held that the admissions to the BEd courses under the Kerala University (KU) will be subject to the final outcome of the writ petition pending before the court, seeking to close down all the BEd centres run by the University.

A Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice A M Shaffique passed the order while considering a petition filed by Ajith Isaac of Kollam,  seeking a directive to National Council For Teacher Education (NCTE) to prohibit BEd training in all centres of Kerala University.

As per the NCTE Act, every institution that intends to offer courses is bound to obtain recognition from NCTE, he stated. The University submitted that except for minor deficiencies, all the other complaints have been solved according to the NCTE

norms. However, counsel for the University could not give a definite statement regarding the permission of the courses for the academic year 2012-13, the court said.
