Mundur: Gokuldas will be reinstated in CPI (M) Area Committee

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPI (M) State Secretariat Meet convened here on Monday decided to reinstate rebel leader and former area committee secretary P.A. Gokuldas in Mundur area committee from which he was removed over a week ago. But Gokuldas will not be given the position of party’s area committee secretary. A person who is recommended by Gokuldas will be made the area secretary. Elamaram Kareem was appointed to hold talks with Gokuldas on this.

A staunch loyalist of V.S. Achuthanandan, Gokuldas had become Mundur area secretary through election, which is not a normal occurrence in the CPI (M). However, the district committee decided to remove him from the post accusing him of capturing the position through manipulations.

Mundur is the third bastion of the CPI (M) in Palakkad district to witness rebel trouble after Shoranur and Ottapalam. Though the rebellion in Ottapalam did not grow into a split, the partymen in Shoranur had left the party in 2008 to float their own outfit, the People’s Development Front.
