Court asks govt to consider working hours of bars after 5 pm

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court directed the state government to consider allowing the sale of liquor in bars after 5 pm. The court said the suggestion was proposed considering the interests of the people. The government can consider it if they want, said a division bench consisting of Justices C N Ramachandran Nair and P S Gopinathan.

The bench observed that if the bars are open during office hours it may prompt many to drink even while on duty. Restricting timings of bars would help to bring down the liquor sale, the court said. The court asked ministers and leaders to take the directives in a good sense.
