Narayana Guru’s teachings to be included in school curriculum


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The cabinet on Wednesday decided to include Sree Narayana Guru’s teachings in the curricula ranging from school level to plus-two level from next academic year onwards.

A committee headed by Prof. M.K. Sanu had been appointed by the Sree Narayana Study Centre at Chempazhanthy, which comes under the Cultural Department, to submit a report after studying the possibility of including Guru’s teachings in the curricula.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said to media persons after the cabinet meeting that the decision was taken on the basis of the report submitted by the committee.

Guru’s teachings will be included in the Malayalam and Social Studies textbooks pertaining to standards up to Plus-Two. Third and fourth standards are exempted.

The director of NCERT, under the Education Department, had earlier recommended that it would take procedures for including the teachings from next academic year onwards. The necessary steps will be taken by the curriculum committee.
