It’s high time that govt banned toddy: High Court

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Thursday said that it is high time that state government banned toddy. The court also directed the state to impose prohibition on toddy at least in the next financial year.

The instruction was given by a division bench comprising Justice C N Ramachandran Nair and Justice B P Ray while considering an abkari case in Palakkad district. The court wanted ban on toddy to save the poor from the evils of alcohol and prevent camouflaged sale of arrack and other spurious liqour in the name of toddy.

The court expressed the wish that a 'bold' decision will be taken by the government in near future, liberating emerging modern Kerala from this 'disgraceful' business carried on everywhere on roadside.
