Assault of ‘Flash’ sub editor: Former prosecution director suspect

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Vanchiyoor police has registered case against three, including former director general of prosecution Adv. P J Thampi, for assaulting the sub editor of Kerala Kaumudi Flash.

A circle inspector of Kollam crime branch, Saajid, is also suspected to be involved in the case.

The unfortunate event was initiated on Sunday noon as the police went to an apartment in Karthika Nagar in Pettah behind the house of Arun T Vijayan, sub editor of Flash, on a complaint received that immoral activities are being carried out in the building.

The police found the owner of the apartment Surya along with Thampi, Saajid and another person consuming alcohol. Seeing influential persons in the group, the police left the scene without further exploration.

Afterwards, Thampi, Surya and a person went to Arun’s house alleging that it was him who complained to the police. They brutally assaulted him and also verbally abused the maid servant. Police came to the spot and shifted Arun to general hospital with serious injuries on face and chest.

Surya and Thampi were present when the police arrived and the former was taken into custody.

Thampi, who was in town to appear for a case, left at night and hence could not be arrested.
