Lorry strike begins

KOCHI: Private bus owners will meet here for a hike in bus fares. The meet is being convened following the hike in the diesel price. They demand a minimum charge of Rs 7 which is at present Rs 5. They will also urge the government to implement the fare hike at the earliest. If not, an indefinite strike would be launched.

It is almost sure that the fare would be hiked soon as Minister Aryadan Muhammed has responded favourably to the demands of bus owners. Auto-taxi organisations are also getting ready to protest pressing for the same demand.

Goods carriers have already begun their strike. The movement of goods has been suspended totally. Lorries from other states too have shown solidarity.  So, the prices of vegetables and essential items are surely going to shoot up.
