No stay for HC verdict on liquor policy

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court disagreed to impose a stay on the Kerala High Court verdict cancelling some clauses in the liquor policy of the state government. The court directed the state government to go ahead with the Kerala High Court verdict.

The High Court had stayed government’s amendment to the liquor Act disallowing allotment of bar licences to three-star hotels.

The Supreme Court directed the government to take a decision on the applications received for new bar licenses within eight weeks. The High Court had quashed the provisions in the amendment that put restrictions on distance between bars in a particular locality.
