Residents thwart municpality’s attempt to dump waste in town

Tension prevailed in the area as local people resisted the attempts of the Alappuzha Municipality to dump waste at the road near the Women and Children Hospital here in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The authorities tried to dig up a hole and dump the waste at around 2.30 a.m. Locals gathered in large numbers when they spotted trucks of the municipality carrying waste. Almost half of the hole was filled with waste by the time people gathered. The truck driver fled the scene immediately. However he was caught by the locals and was released after police arrived. The local residents said it was the second attempt made to dump waste in the area.

Dumping the waste in the residential areas causes great trouble to the people living near by. Also it pollutes the air and water near by disturbing the lifestyle of the people living in that particular residential area.
