CPM ‘publicly censures’ VS

NEW DELHI: Senior leader VS Achuthanandan was publicly censured by the CPM for his visit to Koodamkulam against the wishes of the party leadership.

Addressing a press meet here, party general secretary Prakash Karat said the central committee passed a resolution after discussing VS’ stand different from the party stance on the Koodamkulam issue.

Karat directed to wait till the copy of the resolution is obtained when asked about action against VS. There will be no change in the stand taken at the party congress in Kozhikode on the Koodamkulam issue. The CPM is not keen in the closure of the nuclear plant in Koodamkulam, but safety of the people is important.

An independent agency is needed to guarantee safety measures in Koodamkulam.  If it is assured then the plant can be commissioned, he added.
