Environmental clearance for Kannur Airport


NEW DELHI: The environmental panel coming under the ministry of environment and forests recommended conditional environmental clearance for the Kannur airport. The panel directed to produce the reports of the second approach road, power, water conservation and filling up of land. The final clearance for the airport has to be given by the ministry of environment.

91,263 trees should be planted in place of the 30,421 trees felled for the airport. Directions were given to develop the 12 metre road to 24 metres. Ground water should be used with the consent of the central board. Those evicted should be rehabilitated. Waste should not be dumped in open places.
