Probe against Elamaram Kareem sought


KANNUR: Additional chief secretary V Somasundaram recommended a vigilance probe against many including former industries minister Elamaram Kareem in connection with the corruption in Textile Corporation.

The additional chief secretary approved finance department’s report on it. Action was not taken on an investigation suggested earlier.

The report submitted by the finance principal secretary noticed a corruption of Rs 24 crores in the corporation. Corruption was noticed in the Textile Corporation and in the spinning mills coming under it which started functioning from 2006 at Uthuma, Komalapuram and in Pinarayi.

Corruption worth Rs 14 crores and 10 lakhs were detected in the tenders for buying machines for mills. Corruption worth Rs 9 crores 50 lakhs were noticed in illegal construction. The report states that Kerala Textile Corporation MD M Ganesh and Principal Secretary are responsible for the corruption. A proposal to suspend Ganesh has also been moved.
