HC moots CBI inquiry into ‘child trafficking’

KOCHI:  Kerala High Court made an oral observation on Thursday that “is it not better to conduct a CBI inquiry into the recent incidents of alleged child trafficking.”

The bench chaired by Chief Justice Manjula Chellur asked why the government observed silence in the particular case, while it clamoured for CBI inquiry into every other issue.

“Since three states come under the purview of the case, the CBI as a Central agency can go about the case in an independent and detailed manner. The issue cannot be taken in a lighter vein. There were some moves to hide several facts regarding the incident. It should be investigated and found out,” instructed the court, which also suo motu added CBI as a party in the case.

Meanwhile, the government told the court that the investigation into the ‘child-trafficking’ incident is progressing. “A special team comprising efficient police officers has been deputed for the purpose. In an inquiry conducted in Jharkhand it has been proved that the children were trafficked into Kerala using fake documents. Several persons have been arrested in the case,” submitted the government.

The case will be taken up again on Monday.
