TP case convicts 'buy' liquor, fuel controversy

THALASSERY: TP case convicts, who were returning after attending a trial in another case here, allegedly bought liquor from Mahe, giving room for another controversy. Following the incident, five policemen who accompanied the convicts as security officials were suspended by DGP.

The policemen were taking the convicts including Muhammed Shafi to Thrissur after presenting them in a Thalassery court. On the way, the convicts allegedly bought liquor from Mahe, with the policemen allegedly turning a blind eye on what was happening.

It was bad luck for the convicts and the policemen, when certain local people identified the convicts. They blocked the Scorpio vehicle in which the convicts were being transported and informed the police control room. Two bottles of liquor were recovered from the vehicle.

Later, they were taken to the Payyoli police station for questioning. Interestingly, the policemen first said that the bottles were bought by Shafi and then corrected it, saying, the liquor was bought for their own personal use.

However, an inquiry into the matter has begun.

There have been allegations that the TP case convicts are provided with extra-comforts against jail rules.
