KOCHI: Kerala High Court has asked the government why Kerala needs to have so many bars. The court raised the question while considering petitions filed by bar owners regarding bar licence.
“The government has been consistently saying that its aim is to reduce alcohol consumption but nothing is being done to reduce the number of bars. How can both these things happen?” asked the court.
When the court explained that the government was permitting bars in order to help tourism, the court retorted: “In that case why can’t government permit bars only in tourist centres.”
