Illegal mining: CBI arrests mining baron Janardhana Reddy


Hyderabad: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested mining baron G Janardhana Reddy and his brother-in-law Srinivas Reddy. The investigating agency is probing alleged illegal mining operations in Obulapuram mining company in Andhra Pradesh.

Janardhana Reddy, along with his brothers Karunakara and Somashekara, own the Obulapuram mining company and have raked in millions through the export of iron ore. Srinivas Reddy is the CMD of the company.


The arrest comes after a 10-member CBI team raided both Janardhana Reddy and Srinivas Reddy's house in Bellary and Bangalore respectively. The raids began at 6 am.


Sources say they are being taken to Hyderabad with police escort in a CBI jeep.



Obulapuram is in Andhra Pradhesh though OMC's main office is in Bellary, the iron-ore rich district in Karnataka, about 300 km from Bangalore.


Former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, late YS Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR) had granted mining licence to the Reddy brothers in Andhra Pradesh eight years ago.
