KER to be amended; 40 students needed for new division

Thiruvananthapuram: With the implementation of teachers package, there would be a clause wherein a new division would be made available only if there are at least 40 students in a class. Though there were opinion on allotting a second division if there are 35 students, the government is planning to increase it to 40. As part of the new package, temporary teachers in service during 2010-11 would be benefitted.

The statistics of student numbers taken in the present academic year June would form the base. Permission would be granted to admit more teachers with increase in divisions. But even if student number declines, the job of teachers appointed through this package would'nt be affected.

With cabinet agreeing to the package, there would be amendments in Kerala Education Rules (KER) too. There won't be any head count in future. But instead of that students would be given identity card. With the implementation of the same, creation of teachers post with forged documents could be avoided.

The issue of protection would come to an end with the implementation of the package. Those who are in service would be secured. The teachers who are teaching in government schools through protection would be added in the teacher's banks and would be given permanent appointment when there is an opening in the school and in other schools.
