Saturday, September 17, 2011: In the backdrop of the petrol price hike and the widespread demand for its rollback, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Saturday said his government would soon take a decision on reducing its burden on the common man.
Chandy, who was in the city for various functions, told reporters that he would hold discussions with state Finance Minister K M Mani on reducing the impact of the hike on the people.
“I have not met the Finance Minister. I will discuss, wait for five more hours,” he said.
On the violent protests that took place in the state on the petrol price hike issue, in which three government vehicles were torched, Chandy said, “In a democracy people have every right to protest. But nobody will be allowed to take law into their hands and resort to violence.”
His government did not agree with such kinds of agitations, he said.
