Temple riches: Royal family agrees to tighten security

Friday, September 16, 2011: The Travancore Royal family today informed the Supreme Court that the security at Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple could be strengthened.
The security system instructed by the five-member expert committee chaired by Director of the National Museum C.V. Ananda Bose for the evaluation of temple assets was also acceptable.
The expert panel had earlier insisted on opening the temple vault-‘B’ for assessing the condition of the chamber and for security of the valuables inside it.

The committee in its interim report also pointed out that they would go ahead with the inventory process even though the “Devaprasnam” warned against evaluation of the assets found in the temples.
Meanwhile the Travancore Royal family has they wouldn’t agree with the expert panel’s decision to open the vault ‘B’. But they would definitely abide by the Supreme Court order if it orders to open vault-B.
Of the six vaults, five have been opened so far and their inventory prepared by the panel. The face value of the gold and precious artifacts recovered so far has been unofficially put at Rs 1 lakh crore.
