Monday, September 19, 2011: The foundation stone for the Kanjikode railway coach factory in Palakkad will be laid on October 22. The decision was taken at the meet presided over by Union Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi to discuss the problems regarding the development of railways of the state.
A nodal officer will be appointed to monitor the work of the factory. Meantime, the minister said the demand of the state for a railway zone cannot be granted. The railways are presently concerned about the security. Development is possible only if the centre and the state stand unitedly.
A decision has been taken to complete by December 31 the electrification of Kanyakumari-Thiruvananthapuram rail path.
