Kerala to seek more freedom to utilise funds

Sunday, October 02, 2011: State government will seek more freedom from the Centre to utilise funds allocated to it, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said here.
This plea would be raised by the state at the National Development Council meeting called by Prime Minister at Delhi on Oct 22, he said speaking at a function at nearby Kakkanad.
Chandy pointed out that Kerala was far ahead of other states in Literacy, Health and Education. The state should be allowed the freedom to utilise the funds allocated to these sectors in more deserving areas.
Kerala will seek more power from the central pool in the backdrop of the present crisis being faced, he said. The secretariat with 6 floors has a built up area of over 4000 square feet.
Various offices including that of District planning, Urban and Rural planning will be housed here.
