Govt bans sale of paan masala in Kerala

 Friday, May 25, 2012: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today informed that the state government has banned the sale and consumption of gutka and paan masala in the state.
Speaking to the reporters at a press meet held here on Friday, Chandy added that stringent action would be taken against those who violate the law. The sale of paan masala and other tobacco products has been banned under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
The ban has been imposed due to the increase in number of reported cases of diseases including oral cancer due to constant use of paan masala and other tobacco products.
