'No political interference in probe into Chandrasekheran's murder'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy Wednesday rejected the CPI-M's charge of political interference in the probe into the murder of rebel CPI-M T P Chandrasekheran on May 4 in Kozhikode.


Answering questions during the cabinet briefing here, he said government would not interfere in the probe and would bring to book the accused in the case.


"We will not protect anybody or deliberately harm any persons in the case," Chandy said, adding he was fully satisfied with the progress of the probe.


He said government views very seriously the functioning of 'party cells' in Kannur Central Prison where many CPI-M cadres have been lodged in connection with various cases.


"We will not allow these kinds of things to happen any longer."


Chandy also refuted CPI-M led LDF opposition charge of having violated the election code of conduct by announcing a few welfare programmes in Neyyattinkara, where by election is due on June 2.


On the recent outburst of CPI-M veteran V S Achuthanandan against the party leadership, Chandy said people are waiting to see if Achuthanandan will stick to his position.


"Normally I do not comment on CPI-M's inner party affairs. But Achuthanandan's position on Chandrasekharan's murder and his request to the central leadership to quit the post of Opposition leader has given the party affairs a new dimension that goes beyond the party level," he said.
