Boy dies of rabies in Thrissur

THRISSUR: A nine-year-old boy died of rabies at the Thrissur Medical College Hospital. Vinay Lal, son of Porathukkaran Vijayan of Kaduppassery Colony near Irinjalakuda was a student of Sacred Heart School, Kaduppassery. The boy was undergoing treatment at Irinjalakuda Taluk Hospital for fever and throat pain for the last one-and-a-half weeks. The doctors there could not diagnose the rabies infection. He was shifted to the Thrissur Medical College Hospital when his condition worsened on Tuesday night. The doctors at the Medical College Hospital confirmed rabies infection from the symptoms. He died on Wednesday night. The pet dog at Vinay Lal’s house had died three weeks ago. Neighbours said that there was rabid dog menace in the area. His parents, however, said that the boy was not bitten by the pet dog.It was not clear how the boy contracted rabies.
