Students set world record for largest keyboard ensemble


A total of 136 student keyboard artists from Thrissur, aged between 6 and 17, have found their way into the Guinness World Record Book and the Limca Book of Records for the largest keyboard ensemble.

The performance held at the Tennis Trust Auditorium in Thrissur last November was recognised as the largest music fete by kids on keyboards by the Guinness World Records and Limca Book of Records officials.

According to K K Raju, managing director of the music centre at the School of Music,Thrissur, it was a joyous moment when the fete was performed by the 136 children of the school was given this recognition.

According to Raju, the idea for the world record attempt popped up when he was searching for ways to increase participation in the music program.

“It felt surreal in the beginning. The feeling gradually gave way to a certain level of anxiety,” he said. The musician with an experience of nearly 35 years was equally concerned about the quality of music while conducting the event.In 2009, 75 children from Isaimamani M S Martin’s school, Mellifluous Melodies, in Chennai entered the Limca Book of Records for the same fete. In 2011, Martin broke his own record and another record set by Billy Joel by having 109 students take part in a keyboard ensemble.

The certificates will be given to the participants after three months
