All three projects conceived by previous LDF Govt, says Chandy

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Dismissing the opposition towards Emerging Kerala-2012 Investors Meet, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy Friday made it clear that all the three projects, in which opposition leader V S Achuthanandan sought clarification, were conceived by the previous Marxist-led LDF Government.

'I think the LDF Government brought in these projects for the benefit of the State. The UDF is also going ahead with the same projects for the development of the State," he said in a letter to the opposition leader. He said the government was willing to share any information related to these three projects -- the Petroleum Chemicals and Petrochemical Investment Region, the National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMS Projects in Kochi and Palakkad), and the Electronic Hub at Amballur in Kochi.

He said all these three projects have been announced in the budget by the LDF Government. As this was the fact, a false propaganda was spearheading by the Opposition parties that these projects were introduced by the UDF, which is not acceptable, he argued. The Petrochemical Industrial Park was announced in the 2009 Budget, and a project report was also submitted by the KSIDC after a thorough study, he pointed out. Later, KSIDC was appointed as the nodal agency of the project for which a notification was issued by a Cabinet meeting on April 16, 2010, he said. A sum of Rs three crore was sanctioned to INKEL by the previous LDF Government in 2010 to conduct a feasibility study for the Kochi-Kasargod and the Kochi-Coimbatore Industrial Corridors.

M/S Mahendra Consuting Engineeers was asked to prepare a project report in this regard.
