Guru Gopalakrishnan departed


THRISSUR: Dance maestro Guru Gopalakrishnan succumbed to old age at 86.

He breathed his last at 3 am on Wednesday in Chennai and was cremated there.

He belonged to the Nanthyelath family in Kodungalloor and leaves behind his wife Kusumam, a distinguished dancer, and offsprings Vinod and Apsara.

He had secured many awards and accolade and had also acted in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and Singhala movies. He has done choreography for KPAC’s plays.

He had visited China in 1953 with the first Indian cultural delegation and had also performed a dance-drama based on Bhagawad Gita with Guru Gopinath at Teen Murti Bhavan on Nehru’s special request.

His autobiography is Jeevitharekha.

James Sunny, secretary of Guru Gopinath Nadana Gramam in Vattiyoorkkavu, Thiruvananthapuram, has expressed his condolence.
