LDF to strengthen Kudumbashree strike

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPI (M) led LDF opposition decided to strengthen the strike by women activists of state funded Kudumbashree if their talks with government failed to resolve the issue.

Expressing solidarity with the 'Kudumbashree Protection Samithi' women activists, LDF Convener Vaikom Viswam said here, "LDF is now supporting the agitation, but will take the lead in the strike if the Samithi's demands are not met",

Activists of Kudumbashree, engaged in poverty alleviation programmes, are on a day-night dharna in front of the secretariat for the past eight days, demanding cancellation of Rs 14.36 crore sanctioned to Janashree Mission under the union government supported Rashtriya Krishi Yojana and a probe into alleged financial irregularities by the Mission Director.

Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan and Minister for Panchayat and Social Welfare M K Muneer are scheduled to meet representatives of LDF and Samithi later this evening.

Viswam alleged that the Congress led UDF government was trying to destroy Kudumbashree.
