‎Rs 3.2 crore sanctioned for children whose parents lost due to covid‎

‎Thiruvananthapuram: Health, Women and Child Development Minister Veena George today said rs 3,19,99,000 has been sanctioned to allocate funds to children who have lost their parents/parents due to covid pandemic. A fixed deposit of Rs.3 lakh is sanctioned and Rs.2,000 per month is allotted to the child till he turns 18. The amount required for this was allocated.‎




‎In addition, the study expenses up to the graduation level of these children will be borne from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. At present, there are 87 benefit-eligible children. The Minister said that after collecting the child data by visiting the house through ICDS employees, the District Childcare Units have assessed the condition of each child, reported it to the Child Protection Committee and taken necessary steps for the welfare of these children.‎

‎Apart from this, orders have also been issued setting standards for granting funds. Children who have lost their mother and father due to covid, children of parents who died of covid related physical problems less than three months after covid became negative, children whose father or mother died earlier and their only existing parent died due to covid, children who left their mother or father straight away and now die from single parent covid, whose parents died or left behind are currently in the care of their relatives. Children belonging to the categories of parents and children who have died of covid will be assisted irrespective of the family's income limit or other criteria.‎


‎Families receiving family pensions for government employees are not considered for funding. Parents who are currently protecting the child will not be considered in the event that they are informed in writing that they do not need funding under this scheme. But before the child turns 18, parents can return to this scheme and receive the rest of the help.‎

‎A sum of Rs.3 lakh is provided as one-time assistance so that children eligible for government assistance can withdraw after the age of 18 but interest can be withdrawn at the time of the child's need. Children eligible for government assistance will be allocated Rs.2,000 per month to a bank account in the name of the child and the current parent till they complete the age of 18 years.‎


‎The educational expenses up to the graduation level of these children will be allocated directly to educational institutions through the Department of Women and Child Development from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund at the same time on the recommendation of the District Child Protection Officer on the children's application.‎


‎A scheme monitoring committee has been constituted with the Secretary Chairperson, Department of Women and Child Development, Director, Convenor, Director of Health/Additional Director and not less than the Representative. If there is any doubt in the cases reported through the District Child Protection Officer, the said Committee will take a final decision.‎
