Wednesday, December 28, 2011: Two brothers drowned in the Kabani river at Pannikkalkadavu near the entrance to Kuruva Islands in the district on Tuesday noon.The police identified the deceased as Ajith, 19, and Sreejesh,16, children of V.A. Ramanan of Vanchippurakkal at Chirakkakam near Varapuzha in Ernakulam district. They were part of a 16-member tourist team.
The police said while the team members were bathing at Pannikkalkadavu, Sreejesh was swept away by a strong current. Ajith tried to save his brother but was also caught in the current. The incident occurred around 2 p.m., the police said.
The brothers’ bodies were fished out around 4 p.m. following a search by villagers and tourist guides of the island.
