Thuravoor double murder case: Accused sentenced to life
ALAPPUZHA: The Alappuzha additional district sessions court awarded life sentence to Shaji (32) for murdering a 15-year-old girl and an elderly man who came to her rescue at Chavadi junction, near Thuravoor, on May 27, 2009. A fine of Rs 50,000 has also been imposed on him.
Shaji of the Kuthiyathodu grama panchayat slit the throat of the schoolgirl without provocation and killed Ismail, 68, of Ottakandathil. The 10th standard student was on the way to her school at Thuravoor from a tuition centre, along with three friends, when she was attacked. She died on the way to hospital. Ismail, owner of a textile shop, died after a surgery in a hospital in Kochi.
