Governor seeks action against MLAs

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor P Sathasivan Saturday recommended President Pranab Mukherjee to take action against the MLAs responsible for the untoward incidents witnessed in the assembly on the budget presentation day.The governor through a press release said a report would be submitted to the president after detailing the incidents. The governor has decided not to intervene in the budget presentation of Mani.

The governor issued the press release soon after the chief minister met him. Chandy had informed the governor that the budget was presented with the permission of the speaker. Meantime, the opposition too met the governor seeking budget presentation by another minister.

The happenings in the floor of the assembly yesterday may even justify submission of a report by the governor to the President of India under Article 356 of the Constitution of India. MLAs barging into the dais of the speaker, throwing the mike and damaging the computer are not suitable for a people’s representative. It is the responsibility of the MLAS to abide the rules and regulations in the assembly. Not abiding that is a serious issue.

The government highlighted the necessity for passing the Appropriation Bill for Supplementary Demands for Grants and Vote on Accounts by the legislative assembly on or before 31-3-2015 failing which the state may have to face a financial break down.
