THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The cabinet Wednesday decided to extend time till March 31, 2016 for spending the fund earmarked for local self-governing bodies for this financial year. There is no concern now that it will go waste if the fund is not fully utilized by March 31, 2015.
Briefing reporters after the weekly cabinet meet, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said by carrying forward the fund like this, more time would be obtained to spend the amount. The decision was taken based on the memorandums from the side of representative of local self-governing bodies.
The finance department has given directions that bills of three-tier panchayats will be accepted in the treasury till this month 30th. Changes have been made in the circular that permission for the Asset Development Fund of MLAs and the procedures should be completed before this month 31st. Even after March 31, the fund can be utilized.
