CPM expresses concern over Kolenchery church dispute

Sunday, September 18, 2011: CPM has expressed concern over the state government’s ‘inability’ to solve the dispute between the Orthodox and Jacobite Church factions in Kolenchery in Ernakulam district over the administration of the Church there.
In a statement here, the party state secretariat alleged that the ineptitude of the government was responsible for the flaring up of the dispute. “The rift between faithfuls should be solved amicably and the government should intervene in a creative way to find a compromise formula,” it said.

Stating that the Congress-led UDF government and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had failed to solve the dispute, the CPI(M) expressed its serious concern over the failure of the government in reaching a solution to the issue.
The two factions–Jacobite and Orthodox–of the faithful had for long been fighting each other for control of the Church at Kolenchery on issues of time of worship and its administration.
