No more failures till class X

Thiruvananthapuram: All students can study till class X without failing. As per the new direction of Sarva Siksha Abhaiyan, from third class onwards all students should be promoted. The SSA forwarded the direction to the govt as part of implementing the Right to Education Act. The programme recognition board of SSA accepted the same and was presented before the teachers unions on Monday.

At present those students who managed to score only E grade would not be promoted. Direction is to avoid failures by repeated evaluation and uplifting teaching methods.

The number of academic days will be made 220 days from 200 in LP section and if that is not possible the working hours would be at least 1000 hrs in a academic year. At present teaching days are not more than 180. SSA also wanted to immediately implement the direction to include fifth standard in LP section so as to ease the student's burden.

SSA also directed to convert 118 one-teacher schools to primary schools. Other directions are to conduct eligibility test for teachers, fix age 6 for admission to class one, implement block resource centers in clusters and appoint trainers for the training of teachers.
