Orthodox Church members take out march to CM’s house

Sunday, September 18, 2011: Orthodox Church members laid siege to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s residence in Puthupally in protest against the ongoing strike over the ownership of St Peter’s and St Paul’s Church at Kolencherry. Chandy was in his residence at the time of the incident.
The protestors flayed the alleged reluctance on the part of the government to hand over the administration of the church to the Orthodox as per a recent court order.
Meanwhile, the row between two factions—Orthodox and Jacobite—of the ancient Malankara Syrian Church over conducting prayers at the disputed St. Peter’s & St. Paul’s Church at Kolenchery in Kerala has gone to the extent of a law and order problem. Now, judiciary has also been drawn into the row.
Catholicos Baselios Thomas I, the head of Jacobite Churches, on Saturday criticised judiciary by saying that anything can happen in court if one gives money.
