Part of temple treasure had gone missing, says report

Monday, September 5, 2011: A lawyers’ commission report of 2008 revealed that a part of the invaluable treasure of Sera Padmanabhaswamy Temple had gone missing. The authorities handling the treasure had acted irresponsibly on the issue, the report said.
The report said that commission’s directive to prepare a list and make precise account of the quantity and worth of the gold and other precious materials of the treasure was vehemently opposed by the royal family.
The commission which was appointed to hand over ornaments from the treasure for a festival gave astonishing reports: Two vaults were opened on October 19, 2008 and found that 44 buckles of a large golden umbrella were found to have been replaced with copper ones.
Two silver bells named ‘Kumbheeyam’ found missing. The long golden thread that laced the golden umbrella had gone missing. The commission had already pointed out the lack of adequate security measures in the temple.
