VA Arun Kumar’s appointment: Panel records statements

Tuesday, September 20, 2011: The Joint Assembly committee constituted to probe the allegations against Opposition Leader VS Achuthanandan​’s son VA Arun Kumar, today collected statements from State IT secretary, T Balakrishnan.

Balakrishnan, told the committee that Arun Kumar was appointed as director of ICTA academy after violating rules. The academy is funded by the Centre.
Balakrishnan also said that the academy was registered as a charitable society under IHRD with CM as the chairman and Arun as the director of the academy.
The appointment was made immediately after submitting a letter for permission to start the academy to the central finance ministry and that is violation of rules, he said. But VS stated in assembly that there was no such society.
After the assembly session the committee headed by VD Satheesan MLA will continue the probe. The committee has been probing the four allegations leveled against Arun by PC Vishnu Nath in the Assembly. The committee will also collect statements from VS Achuthanandan and PC Vishnu Nath.
The previous LDF government had appointed Arun Kumar as the ICT academy director prior to the Kerala Assembly elections.
