Saturday, September 17, 2011: The hartal called by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the capital as a protest against the police action on DYFI, SFI activists became an opportunity for hooligans to unleash violence in the city.
Several untoward incidents were reported in which group of unidentified persons pelted stones at KSRTC buses in the Pappanamcode, Venjaramoodu, Sreekaryam, Vattiyoorkkavu, Pangappara and Pulayanarkotta.
The people had a tough time as private buses, autorickshaws and taxis stayed off the roads. Private vehicles were seen plying on the city roads right from the morning.
Government offices recorded thin attendance and all shops and establishments remained closed throughout the day. In many areas, the LDF activists forced the shopkeepers to down shutters. Police personnel were posted at junctions and important places to prevent untoward incidents.
