Govt examining proposal to form State Investigation Bureau

Monday, October 3, 2011: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Monday said that the State government is examining a proposal for forming a State Investigation Bureau on the lines of the Central Investigation Bureau.
Replying to questions in the Assembly on Monday, Chandy said that based on a High Court suggestion, the Director-General of Police has submitted an interim report and it is being examined by the government.
The Crime Branch is inquiring into the land deals in the areas affected by the Marad riots. The number of criminal cases involving policemen is coming down. While imparting training, the police trainees having criminal background are being traced out and they are terminated.
Since the UDF government assumed office, 151 persons have been included in the Goonda list. As many as 39 persons were included in Thiruvananthapuram, but there were no fresh entries in Kasargod, Wayanad, Malappuram and Thrissur districts. Steps have been initiated to check malpractices in PSC examinations.
Electronic gadgets have been banned on the examination campuses. Community policing has been introduced 148 police stations in three phases. Steps will be expedited to entrust the PSC with the recruitment to State-Owned Enterprises.
