Kozhikode moral policing: Prime accused held


Wednesday, November 30, 2011: The prime accused in the Kozhikode moral policing incident has been arrested from the Nedumbassery airport on Wednesday. The case relates to lynching of a youth Shahid Bava, 27, by a mob at Kodiyathur. The first accused in the case, Kodiyathur Maaliyekal Fayas, was nabbed by the police.
With Fayas arrest, the total number of persons arrested is 13. The case relates to a group of persons beating up Shahid with sticks, after tying his hands and legs, on October 10 for allegedly having an affair with a married woman. The victim succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital in the city.
After the incident, Fayas left abroad and returned on Wednesday morning by the Jet Airways flight. Police arrested him immediately and will hand him over to the Mukkam police. Police are yet to arrest two more persons relating to the case.
