MV Jayarajan to move Supreme Court against HC verdict


Thursday, 10 November 2011: CPM state committee member MV Jayarajan will tomorrow file an appeal in Supreme Court challenging the High Court verdict sentencing him to six months imprisonment in contempt of Court case.
In connection with this CPM State secretary Pinaray Vijayan held discussions with senior advocates in Supreme Court. The party is most likely to consider senior SC advocates Hareesh Salve and Anil Divan.

The Kerala High Court had on Tuesday sentenced M.V Jayarajan to Poojappura central jail for his derogatory remarks against High Court judges. Court also slapped a fine of Rs 2000 under the contempt of Court charges.
The High Court had initiated suo motu contempt of court proceedings against Jayarajan after he made critical comments against judges for banning roadside meetings during a public speech in Kannur on June 26 last year.
The court, after examining available documents, video clippings and submissions made by amicus curiae, concluded that there was contempt in his remarks.
