Two more held in Kodiyathur incident

Saturday, November 26, 2011: The police have arrested two more persons in connection with the incident in which a 29-year-old youth succumbed to injuries which he sustained after he was severely beaten up by a mob in Kozhikode.
The accused have been identified as Ayoob and Irshad, police told. In what appears to be a case of moral policing, Shahid Bava, from Cheruvadi, was grievously assaulted near Kodiyathur village office around 11.30 am on Wednesday, and succumbed to injuries at a private hospital.
According to police, Bava used to regularly visit a house occupied by women members of a family in the area during the night. He was apparently warned by the men folk in the locality to stay away but when he came on Wednesday they waylaid him, tied him to an electric post and beat him till he lost consciousness.
Bava, who sustained severe head injuries, was admitted to a private hospital in Kozhikode city. He died on around 3pm Sunday and an autopsy will be performed today.
The police filed a charge sheet against 17 people and arrested one. Kollalathil Abdurahiman aka Cheriyappu, who was nabbed by the police on Thursday, was later remanded in judicial custody.
